Program Description
WIA is currently looking for volunteers to work in its English-medium nursery school teaching English and mathematics. While WIA has had many international volunteers work with the organization in the past, they have often come through other non-government organizations. WIA would like to start recruiting volunteers through its own channels.
WIA provides education to approximately 78 orphans and vulnerable children. The school is divided into three classes by age group. There are three permanent Tanzanian teachers as well. Classes are conducted five days a week, from 8 AM to 12 PM. The nursery school is closed during April, August, and December. Volunteers can establish tutoring sessions with the children during the holiday months if they so choose. WIA is looking for volunteers to teach for at least two months, but volunteers are welcome to stay up to a year. Guidance will be provided as to what subjects to cover, but volunteer teachers will be expected to prepare their own lessons. The volunteer will most likely need to take public transportation to the nursery school daily. Volunteers may also spend their afternoons assisting WIA in the office or helping to provide other services, if they so choose.
